About my work
“My paintings are about the human and architectural faces of the inner-city suburbs – the unseen, often ignored everyday places of my hometown.
I love the way light transforms, touching buildings that may be ordinary, neglected or lonely, to give them a new life and beauty. Places can be threatening, dull or energising, often affecting several generations of people who live there. They are imbued with the past lives and deeds of earlier residents until someone different comes along to change them.
Sometimes I include a lone figure – the watcher, the alien, sometimes a couple to continue the story. I use fences, veranda railings, shadows and telegraph poles as metaphors for life’s obstacles, trials and ultimate hope.”
